I've not seen anyone using the Volca Modular like this before so I thought I'd do a quick video on it. A shoutout to @ChrisLodyMusic for keeping me inspired on the instrument and @loopopfor his videos about the Make Noise Maths module which inspired this technique.
Some extra notes on the patches described in this video: you can of course use the modulation oscillator as the source for Sub-harmonics by patching the mod osc out (rather than the main osc out) into the Function 2 Trigger in. You can also generate pulse wave sub-harmonics by using the Function 2 Trigger out instead of the + or - outs. Sub-harmonic generation works only when the Shape knob of function 2 is past ~11am where the waveform is more skewed to an upward ramp shape, and only works well on simple waveforms (keep the fold and mod knobs low for good tracking if using the main osc as the source). Patch notes below:
Basic Sub-harmonic patch using Main Osc as source:
Main Osc out to FN2 Trig In (Or use Mod Osc Out)
FN2 + Out to LPG1 Audio In
Utilty a-bxc to FN2 Time In (for faster cycle and fine tuning)
Patch to Utility a or b input to modulate sub-harmonic, eg: with woggle stepped out
Clocking the Woggle from the Sync out jack:
Sync Out jack to CV in jack
CV in Audio out to Woggle trigger in
Enjoy and have fun with it!
