In this anime video essay I compare and contrast two of Shonen greatest arcs: Hunter x Hunter's Chimera Ant Arc and Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Incident. Both arcs are innovative within the Shonen genre and each explore the darkness of humanity. It starts with both Muruem and Gojo as these missions unfold to deal with the strongest characters in the universe. Our protagonists Gon and Yuji both play supporting roles in these arcs but their development are key to revealing themes about humanity. In this video I breakdown the many stylistic choices in these two arcs to see how Togashi and Gege use similar structure to create vastly different stories. In the end both of them comment on the perils of humanity.
