2018 Preston Championships Over 60 Final: Brian Oldfield vs Mike Armishaw
Preston Championships is held once a year and is open to anyone who plays within the Preston League. The event is held in the main sports hall of the St Augustine's Sports Complex which is also part of Cardinal Newman College, Preston. Spectators are welcome at this event.
Mike plays for Garstang A who have established themselves as a solid Premier Division team. Mike plays up to the table and is mainly a blocker and top spin player. Going in to the 2018 Championships, Mike had a win rate of 6.67% so to perform as he did at our 2018 Championships was a credit to him and his determination to keep going. Mike's current Preston ranking is 79. Mike was one of the founding members and coaches of Garstang Table Tennis Club. Mike still coaches today.
Brian Oldfield is another player how has played for many years in Preston. Brian has a skiddy forehand and spinney backhand and his style makes him awkward to play. Brian plays for Deepdale A in our Premier Division and has a current win rate of 61% and league ranking of 17. Brian consistently reaches the knockout stages of our events, would 2018 prove to be a "break through" year for him? Brian also plays in the Blackpool Table Tennis league.
