If you have an iPhone 3GS it must be already owned
to do thus guide!!!!!! Sorry I forgot to mention that.
If you have already updated your iPod Touch 2G to 3.1 and its not pwned I would recommend waiting for Redsn0w to come out. It is a lot easier than downgrading. I will have a guide on it also.
If you get the 1600 error try restoring again without going into dfu mode.
Here are the firmware names for the devices
iPod Touch 1g: iPod1,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw
iPod Touch 2g: iPod2,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw
iPhone 2g: iPhone1,1_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw
iPhone 3g: iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw
