What Difference Composites Reveal About Your Compressions
MISTAKE ALERT: We are aware that there are a couple of issues with this video. While the methodology for comparing outputs is sound, comparing a single pass output to a mulit-pass one is an unfair comparison. We were not trying to stack the deck against Resolve but that was the result of this unintentional mistake. The logic behind that decision was that we would use the default settings from Resolve for H.264 output and then build a file of comparable size to compare. Though the file sizes are comparable, the comparison is unfair. A multipass encode done in Resolve added almost identical noise to the signal as a multipass compression done in Media Encoder.
While editing in DaVinci Resolve is a terrific experience, you have to be careful when you get to the Deliver Panel. Not all exports are created equally and in this video, we demonstrate how different those exports can be. This demonstration isn't a qualitative one. No sir! We use math to prove that a render completed in Adobe Media Encoder will have significantly less noise than an H.264 render completed in DaVinci Resolve.
