John Lennon has been quoted on the making of Instant Karma — “wrote it for breakfast, recorded it for lunch, and we're putting it out for dinner”
What Lennon loved about the process was the sheer immediacy being able to release a record quickly after the song’s conception.
The New Normal was written, recorded and released in the spirit of Instant Karma but with the benefit of modern technology which not only allows for home recordings but also digital distribution - I fancy Lennon would have loved to be able to make music during this extraordinary era.
I consider The New Normal a fairly lofi affair - being recorded on my iMac (via Logic Pro) without any external tools whatsoever and why not? Sound quality is important but not at the expense of content. IMHO
In any case, I liken these new WATCHMEN releases to the demo cassettes I put together in the early 90s for sale at various sympathetic outlets. If it was good enough then, it surely is good enough now!
The song reflects how an anxious mind must be processing all that is going on in the world now during these COVID-19 pandemic times and I hope you will be able to relate to the sentiments contained within.
