Role-playing games have always been about big worlds and long memories, but not every great RPG got its moment in the spotlight. In this video, I’m digging into 10 overlooked and underrated RPGs that time quietly passed by, games that deserved more love than they got.
These are the RPGs you might’ve rented once, skipped because the box art looked weird, or never even saw on store shelves. Some launched at the wrong time, some were overshadowed by bigger names, and others were just a little too strange for their own good. But taken together, they paint a great picture of how creative and experimental RPGs have always been.
From NES role-playing experiments like Destiny of an Emperor and Ultima: Quest of the Avatar, to cult favorites like Chrono Cross, Wild Arms 3, and Eternal Sonata, this list jumps across generations, consoles, and wildly different design philosophies. There’s even room for handheld oddities and modern throwbacks that feel like love letters to the RPGs many of us grew up with.
