Two GREAT RIVER GODS in Nzemaland - Hates bl00d? Females not allowed to bathe in it?
As the Nzemas understand it, the world is surrounded by gods. There is first of all a universal creator, a cosmic God called god called “Edenkema”, who was there before all others, long before the world came whom all other gods and earthly beings owe their existence.
There is “Azele Yaba”, the earth goddess. Also there are innumerable other deities.
According to popular opinion, the “awozonle”are distributed all over the country. They have their abode in rivers, lagoons, ponds, trees, rocks, shoals, and reefs out at sea; like the better known abosom of Ashanti, they shun inhabited places and prefer secluded spots in the bush or forest, though they occasionally visit a town or village.
I visited two of these river gods in half Assini;
Amanzule and Awianeanloanu.
I loved how the rivers were beautifully conversed.
I loved the beautiful sceneries of these river gods.
