Video feedback for online coaching may be the biggest separator between coaches who merely send programs and coaches who actually coach.

Matt Reynolds explains why video feedback is better than text for building trust, improving technique, strengthening client connection, and delivering a better online coaching experience. A spreadsheet can tell a client what to do, but it cannot coach the client through a missed lift, a technical error, a bad week of training, or a major PR.

Online coaching has to recreate the best parts of in-person coaching: clear instruction, personal connection, trust, accountability, and communication that changes behavior. Video feedback gives coaches a better way to do that.

Clients get to see themselves lift, hear their coach’s voice, and receive feedback in context. Coaches can pause the video, slow it down, draw on the screen, explain cues, celebrate progress, and help clients understand what to focus on next.

Matt also explains why video feedback is valuable beyond barbell technique. Coaches can use it for nutrition check-ins, programming adjustments, accountability, habit coaching, and relational touchpoints with clients whose technique is already solid.

Good online coaching is not just programming. It is communication, feedback, judgment, and care. Video feedback helps coaches deliver all of that more effectively.
