Learn how to create a basic racing game in Scratch 3.0. This game is suitable for beginning game designers. I use it in my high school animation and game design course. #scratch #racegame #animation
In this video I show you how to use two variables (xSpeed and ySpeed) to control the velocity (i.e. speed) of the race car as it moves around the stage. This is just one way to create movement in Scratch. Check out my other tutorials for other ways to do this.
This is part 1 of a two part tutorial.
In my class, I provide a Scratch 3.0 starter file. I demonstrate how to download and then upload this file to your Scratch account. If you don't have access to that file (because you are not one of my high school students) you can simply create three backdrops for your stage, according to the design I share in the video. Note: Make sure each backdrops uses the same background color. This is important later in the game.
I am a high school teacher. I teach a variety of classes, such as computer science, programming, web design, animation, game design, graphic design and video editing. You can find tutorials on all these topics, and more, on my channel.
