Prepping for Marrakech IFSA UBC
The International Forestry Students Association (IFSA) held their second iteration of a "Prepping" series, to take a deeper look at the UN climate change negotiations process upcoming in Marrakesh.
The session was an opportunity for students, staff, academics and community members to engage and untangle the true utility and goals of the high level climate change negotiations.

Panelist biographies: (in order of presentations)
Dr. Werner Kurz. is a Senior Research Scientist at the Canadian Forest Service (Natural Resources Canada) in Victoria, BC. He leads the development of Canada's National Forest Carbon Monitoring, Accounting and Reporting System and the Forest Carbon Management Project of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS).
He co-authored six reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). His research focuses on carbon dynamics in forests and harvested wood products and the opportunities of the forest sector to contribute to climate change mitigation.
May Anne Then was the President of IFSA World 2014-16 and our LC in 2014. As an IFSA delegate she has been pro- active in representing the voice of youth group at various UN high profile meetings.
Dr. Harry Nelson focuses on analyzing natural and environmental resource policy with an emphasis on forestry and in developing new policy options that can help enhance the long run sustainability of Canadian forests and the communities and businesses that rely upon them. He is currently investigating what role Ecosystem Services could provide as an alternative business model for indigenous groups managing forest lands in BC.
Dr. Michael Brauer is a Professor in the School of Population and Public Health at UBC. His research focuses on linkages between the built environment and human health, with specific interest in the global health impacts of air pollution. He has participated in monitoring and epidemiological studies throughout the world and served on advisory committees to the World Health Organization, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, the US National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Canada, the International Joint Commission and governments in North America and Asia.
