Video Outline
SAS Grid Manager Overview (00:00)
◉ SAS Grid Manager is a multi-tier architecture that enables users to submit jobs to a grid of computers for data analysis and reporting.
◉ It constantly monitors the grid nodes, their processing activity, and resource capacity.
◉ Jobs are moved from queues to the most capable node for execution at any given time.
◉ If no nodes are available, jobs stay in the queues until a node becomes available.
◉ Balancing workload ensures jobs can be processed without overloading or competing for resources.
◉ Efficient utilization of resources increases overall analysis and reporting throughput.
◉ Additional nodes can be added during peak load times and removed when the load eases.
◉ Nodes can be taken offline for maintenance by administrators.
◉ SAS Grid Manager is aware of offline nodes and does not route jobs to them during maintenance.
◉ When maintenance is complete, administrators restore the node to the grid, making it available for jobs.
◉ If a node goes down unexpectedly, the remaining nodes continue handling the load.
High Availability and Grid Enablement (01:10)
This section discusses the high availability provided by SAS Grid Manager for critical services running in the environment. It also mentions how programmers can analyze code to determine if it can be grid-enabled.
High Availability
◉ SAS Grid Manager provides high availability for critical services in the environment by monitoring them.
◉ If a service goes down, SAS Grid Manager fails it over to another node.
Grid Enablement
◉ Programmers can analyze new and existing code to determine if it can be grid-enabled.
◉ Grid-enabling code can accelerate results by running certain steps in parallel.
◉ For example, a program can create a SAS dataset and then run independent reporting or analytic steps on that data.
