Just a small video on installing Openbox in FreeBSD 12.1
I also installed Tint2, but didn't go into configuring Tint2 (there are many great videos on how to configure Tint2 on Youtube).
This will give you a basic install for you to customise yourself.....
Although it didn't come up in the video, the step to configuring 'openbox.desktop' is listed below.

Commands used in this video:
pkg install xorg
create .xinitrc and add exec openbox-session
pkg update
pkg install openbox
pkg install obconf obmenu
sysrc slim_enable="NO" --- you could choose "YES", I was being safe
ls -a
(in non-root):
mkdir ~/.config
mkdir ~/.config/openbox
cp /usr/local/etc/xdg/openbox/*.* ~/.config/openbox
create .xinitrc and add exec openbox-session
pkg install tint2
edit '.config/openbox/autostart'
tint2 &
xterm -fa "Mono" -fs 11 - geometry +20+20 &
xclock -geometry 200x200-50+50
startx
sysrc dbus_enable="YES"
echo sessiondir /usr/local/share/xsessions/
(2xright angle brackets) /usr/local/etc/slim.conf
edit /usr/local/share/xsessions/openbox.desktop
slim
