Once you see this bird, you'll have no doubt that birds descended from dinosaurs. Despite their terrifying size and striking appearance, these creatures are poorly studied in the wild. This is due to their ability to freeze motionless, turning into a living statue. Shoebills also inhabit hard-to-reach places—the impenetrable swamps of Africa. These giants rarely take to the air, and their wingspan reaches two and a half meters. Their huge, strong beak with a hook is useful for fishing, but doesn't make them dangerous. These birds are virtually defenseless and incredibly peaceful. Even wild individuals who have never seen a human readily allow one to approach them.
