Summer science experiment with sand | Appearing stone
Why does the stone come to the top of sand?
This simple summer experiment looks like magic!
Get a stone and put it in a plastic cup. Fill it with sand.
Cover the top and shake it up and down. The stone will rise to the top!
With each shaking, grains of sand are poured under the resting stone. With each new shake, it goes up a little at a time. This is how the stone is pushed to the surface, regardless of its density.
