What do you think of this hack❓ Got a better one? Surprised by it? Let me know in the comments 📣
I certainly was when I first came across it 💡 and some people’s reaction is that it’s too good to be true 😲
OK, so reducing file size doesn’t sound like the most exciting thing 😴 but, in my opinion, a hack is something that is not obvious, is simple to do, and delivers a lot of value 💰 And I haven’t heard a better hack in Excel 🏆
If you work with big files – let’s say 40MB+ – then you WILL use a lot of disk space 💾 (particularly if creating multiple versions) and you WILL use a lot of time ⏳ when opening and, more importantly, saving your workbook 🐌
Simply changing the file type will SAVE you disk space and SAVE you time 🎉🎊 It’s a no brainer 😎 Note, this hack has a marginal effect on small workbooks ⚠️
If you work with third party applications reading data from Excel, you may find a few are slower, though this is rare. But if so you can always just resave using XLSX file type 🤷♂
