Gameplay
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a third-person action-adventure game that offers gameplay similar to the 2013 Tomb Raider game. Players control Lara Croft through various environments, fighting enemies and solving platforming puzzles using improvised weapons and gadgets to advance the storyline. The game features a crafting system, allowing players to craft items, likes different types of arrows (poison, climbing, fire, grenade, with rope) by collecting materials from plants and animals in the game's raw environment. The game world includes a weather system that both human and animal characters can react to, as well as a day-night cycle. For example, to craft a more durable winter coat, Lara must hunt a wolf that only appears at a certain time of day and under specific weather conditions. Lara can swim, which increases her mobility and combat tactics. Combat has been redesigned, offering more options for stealthy approaches and ambush attacks. Lara can confuse enemies by using the environment, hide behind bushes or in trees, shoot arrows at objects, throw Molotov cocktails and smoke bottles, or completely avoid combat by climbing trees or moving across rooftops. The bow and arrows return from Tomb Raider. The climbing hook, now known as the grappling drum, returns for swinging on the line after not appearing in the series since Tomb Raider: Underworld. Options for multiple bows can be made from specific animals and materials that Lara can hunt and recover. Other weapons, such as her pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, and climbing axe, return, and additionally, a hunting knife is introduced for melee or stealth attacks, along with a respirator and lockpick for opening locked chests and doors. Platforming also returns, along with mechanics for jumping forward on vertical walls, climbing and jumping from edge to edge, and swinging on trapezes. Quick-time events and dodges also return, allowing players to avoid deadly traps in the game and perform finishing moves and counterattacks. Plot: The action takes place after Tomb Raider, and Lara Croft's experiences with supernatural events on Yamatai have been covered up by the organization Trinity. To prove she hasn't gone insane, Lara becomes obsessively interested in discovering truths about myths around the world. Rise of the Tomb Raider follows Lara Croft in her search for the ancient city of Kitezh in Siberia, built by George II, Grand Prince of Vladimir in the 13th century, which Lara believes holds some truth about immortality.
