Ofc Hrs/AMA - #CX, #UX, Axure, and other questions answered live!

Today's questions were (in order):

I am currently doing an internship that is labeled UX design but unfortunately the projects are UI design were I am being told to create UI screens with no data about users. In addition, my visual designs are not being looked at in terms of typography, contrast, balance, etc. I am getting no training and doing a lot of self learning. I asked mangers for better quality work with research but nobody is getting back to me in a timely manner or is refusing to listen to me and understand my concern which is making things really upsetting. My question is should I leave the internship because it seems the company and mangers do no not understand ux and do not seem to care about my needs? I am so lost how to be careful looking for other opportunities claiming to be ux when its something different.

Hi Tom Hi Debbie! I'm wondering what's your perspective on building trust with customers?

Hi Tom, you're one of the people I follow that think deeply about how and what we are doing with research, ideas, hypotheses and how these turn into different endpoints. I'm from a UX background but now run lots of experiments. One of the issues I have is making experimentation and UX folks work together but they're often misaligned in terms of incentives & goals. My question is "we are all working on the same thing here, why does there seem to enmity between these functions within organisations?" A shorter question - what are we still doing wrong, that we were doing wrong 20 years ago 🙂

Who do you think are the most important senior business stakeholders to reach out to for buy in to implement a new UX research program?

What is the right time to start marketing campaigns for a business that wants to grow? Is it once we get all the learnings from research and use them to design or redesign the services or products that we are ready to market them? This question is for a client who is a nursing home and wants us to help them grow their business through marketing, branding, and service design activities within 6 months. If I would have been the owner of that nursing room I would have first improved the overall experience that the patients get there by improving their services by conducting various research and then focusing on marketing. How do we convince them to give more time to research before starting to spend money on marketing.

I'm trying to understand the fundamentals of UX and have a list of books lined up. I was wondering if you could help me prioritize which ones I should read first, or suggest some other books. I've been told that books like 'About Face' are more textbook-like and provide a grounded knowledge that can help contextualize things in UX. The books on my list include those related to UX Research such as 'Just Enough Research,' 'Interviewing Users,' 'Articulating Design Decisions,' 'It's Our Research,' and 'Think Like a UXR. For Interaction Design, the books include 'Design of Everyday Things,' 'About Face,' and 'Emotional Design.'" (2/2). apologies for the long question 🙈

Hello Tom, Deb and everyone! I notice something about jobs lately. When I was transitioning in 2020 the demand was min 2 years of experience. Now ads demand 3 years. I find myself wondering how much do years matter once you actually have experience? As a hiring manager how do you actually evaluate this? Is it a portfolio thing, do you want something on the CV, is it a combo? Wha's the best way to convey things?

Hi Debbie and Tom, Could you recommend how to combine or triangulate different UXR tecniques?Any tips on how to decide to split the research Qs, plan and synthesize insights and reporting? Thank you.

How do we account for 'confidence'? if we get asked about it?
