Hey everyone! In this video, Zachary Shemon, the professor of saxophone at the University of Missouri-Kansas City gives us a classical saxophone lesson, covering a wide range of concepts. Shemon is one of the kindest people I've ever met. When he was in undergrad, he double majored in sax performance and engineering, which I think is pretty insane. For his master's, he opted to go the route of music. He's been the alto chair of the PRISM quartet, arguably America's most important classical saxophone quartet, since 2007. If you haven't checked them PRISM, please check out their collabs with Miguel Zenon and Melissa Aldana. Such a cool unique texture to combine classical sax accompaniment with jazz solo voice! Shemon has also been the sax professor at UMKC since 2013. It's impressive to me that he skipped his doctorate in music and still secured a prestigious gig. But when you hear his playing and teaching, it's truly no wonder. Now, he continues music full time but is also a new dad of a year and a half! New father master.
