04 Explorer RPM'S compared to 89 Jeep wrangler
They say how torquey the Jeep 4.2 liter inline six is. Well I'd agree that it has plenty of torque when climbing a hill in 4 low, besides that it really doesn't have much to offer IMO. The Explorer's 4.0 has so much more torque and power it's not even comparable. Doesn't Matter how quickly I shift the gears in the jeep, it takes so much longer to get up to speed. I know I'm comparing an 89 jeep 4.2 carbureted inline 6 engine to an 04 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC V-6 engine, but what a difference and at 70 mph we're only talking about a 300-400 rpm difference. If I try climbing a hill in the jeep while in 4WD high the rpm's will literally go so low it will stall out. It needs that 4WD low for sure.
