The Myths of GATE
Most of the time, it is the fear in one's mind which stops an individual from climbing the ladder of success. Most of the students have myths regarding the GATE exam and due to the fear of failure, they do not even try
to study or take a chance to move ahead.
First of all, let’s discuss What is GATE?
GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a test of a student's grasp over his or her undergraduate studies - right from the first year to the final year of his engineering or technical or computer education. It checks the clarity of the candidates' concepts as well as their application.
Proper planning, determination, focus, and devoted preparation is the key to success for any competitive exam and the same applies for GATE too.
Since I have been into teaching for the GATE exam for the last 21 years I must say it is one of the most renowned exams as it has a number of benefits for the students. Let me mention a few of them –
1. You can go for higher studies (ME, MTech, Research): If you cleared gate with an astounding score, the best opportunity after gate exam is that you can go for M.Tech or ME in some prestigious institutes like IITs, NIT or IISC.
2. You can join foreign universities after your GATE exam: Another great benefit of qualifying GATE exam is that you want to pursue your higher study from foreign universities, then a valid GATE score will help you to fulfill your dream.
3. Job opportunities: Undoubtedly the benefit of qualifying GATE exam in job’s perspective is that if you have pursued M.Tech or ME through GATE examination, then you will be blessed with a chunk of good job opportunities from many reputed companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc.
4. 100 percent job assurance: A master degree candidate will certainly get more job opportunities than a graduate candidate. Many companies are showing their inclination in hiring M.Tech or ME students during the placement. You can get an opportunity for a technical job profile which will help you to fulfil your dream.
5. Public Sector Undertakings Hiring: Another great benefit of GATE exam is that the candidates who did M.Tech or ME with a valid Gate score may also get the offers from PSUs. These days many PSUs like ISRO, BARC, DRDO, ONGC etc are hiring candidates with good GATE scores.
6. Teaching job: Nowadays, many educational institutes and universities often recruit postgraduate engineering candidates from campuses. If you are looking for an academic career option after your ME or
M-Tech, then you can apply for the faculty positions in many universities and eminent colleges.
7. Scholarships through GATE: In order to promote post graduate programs in India, GATE students are offered a Scholarship/ Assistance ship, where the students are paid Rs 12400 per month by the MHRD.
8. Ticket to Junior Research Fellowship: GATE qualified engineers have been made eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF). Such fellowships are paid, and the stipend generally is between Rs 15,000- Rs 20,000.
In spite of all these benefits of the GATE examination students have some misconceptions regarding the exam.
