Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the Lumber Plexux, its origin, the nerves involved in forming it, what does it supply, and the nerves it branch into.
Knee extension is innervated by the L2, L3 and L4 nerve roots via the femoral nerve. Muscle which is innervated: Quadriceps.
Hip adducation is innervated by the L2, L3 and L4 nerve roots via the obturator nerve. Muscle which are innervated :
adductor brevis
adductor longus
adductor magnus
lateral femoral cutaneous nerve: with its origin from the nerve roots of L2 and L3, the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve innervates the skin on the lateral part of the thigh. Risk of injury to the nerve with bone graft, hip and acetabulum procedures.
The psoas muscle aids in hip flexion.
How does Dr.Ebraheim remember the nerves of the lumbar plexus?
L2, L3 & L4 : femoral nerve, obturator nerve
L2, L3: lateral femoral cutaneous nerve of the thigh.
L1: illiohypogastric, illioinguinal
L1, L2: genitofemoral nerve.
L4, L5: lumbosacral trunk
