We explore the most color accurate version of Stable Diffusion yet, the CosXL model and test its claims on high dynamic range.
Okay, I've been testing the latest SDXL version, CosXL, the one focused on enhanced color accuracy, and the results are...interesting...
First, I tried a descriptive prompt: "a beautiful European woman with flaming red hair, black jacket, white T-shirt, against a blue wall." The color output was remarkably close to the input. The red was vivid without being oversaturated, and the contrast in the clothing was clearly defined.
Next, I switched gears: "a beautiful angelic woman in saintly white robes, standing in a white room with floor-to-ceiling windows." The program rendered an image with exceptional control over subtle white tones, creating an ethereal feel. Impressive.
Naturally, it's not flawless. Pushing for muted palettes introduced some color drift. However, on the whole, this version delivers perhaps the most refined color handling I've seen in a Stable Diffusion update yet. The downside? Sadly, it's currently researcher-only. Still, this gives us a strong indication of the technology's trajectory.
