Life Cycle – Is a process of building and distributing a particular project.
POM will help in executing this Life Cycle
3 Life Cycles
Default lifecycle – Handles Project deployment
Clean lifecycle – Handles Project Cleaning
Site lifecycle – Handles creation of Projects site documentation

Default Life Cycle Phases
*****************************
validate --- If you just need to validate your project , use validate phase
compile --- If you need to compile your source code, use compile phase
test --- If you need to run your tests , use test phase
package --- If you need your Jar to be generated use package phase
verify --- If you need to check results of test, use verify phase ( post )
Install --- this installs the package to your local for use as a dependency in other project
Deploy --- usually done in environments like qa/stage/prod
copies final package to remote repo for sharing to developers

pre-clean --- execute processes needed prior to the actual project cleaning
clean --- remove all files generated by the previous build
post-clean --- execute processes needed to finalize the project cleaning

Site Life Cycle Phases

pre-site --- execute processes needed prior to the actual project site generation
site --- generate the project's site documentation
post-site --- execute processes needed to finalize the site generation, and to prepare for site deployment
site-deploy --- deploy the generated site documentation to the specified web server
