The Story of the Romanov Grand Duchesses | Documentary
For more than a century, the Romanov sisters have been surrounded by myth, legend, and misunderstanding. Were they isolated princesses? Wartime heroines? Innocent victims of history? Drawing on their personal diaries, letters, memoirs, and historical sources made available after the fall of the Soviet Union, this documentary explores who the Grand Duchesses really were—their personalities, relationships, daily lives, hopes, struggles, faith, and the tragic fate that united them forever.
Far beyond the familiar image of "OTMA," each sister emerges as a unique individual: Olga's intellectual depth and sensitivity, Tatiana's remarkable leadership and quiet strength, Maria's warmth and compassion, and Anastasia's humour and irrepressible spirit. Together, they formed one of history's most extraordinary families, living through the final years of Imperial Russia before their imprisonment and execution in 1918.
Whether you are passionate about Romanov history, Imperial Russia, or the lives of Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra, this documentary offers a carefully researched portrait of the Romanov Grand Duchesses and the world they inhabited.
Written and narrated by George Hawkins.
