I have been experimenting with generating different types of tessellations and thinking about the easiest ways of making highly articulated objects. In Blender, this becomes possible by generating a tileable component that we use on a base mesh.

The workflow is pretty straightforward and consists of the following:
-Create a component that can be tiled in the X and Z directions
create a simple base mesh object of flat faces along a line
Tessellate

The setup is completely parametric and it allows for many types of experiments. For example, the flat base can have different number of sides, or the component can be distorted.

Blender is an excellent architectural design tool, capable of high level, fun, and highly parametric concept designs. If you would like to find out more.
