Many new electric cars today have an average WLTP range of up to 400 kilometers. Some, like the... For example, the Lucid Air can even travel up to 800 kilometers. Let's take a look at four of the most popular electric cars.
If you drive approximately 40 km per day, your battery could potentially last for around 13 days. Of course, this also depends heavily on your driving style and the weather. Driving from Berlin to Munich at 160 km/h will naturally drain the battery much faster than driving at a constant 120 km/h. This is essentially the same for combustion engine vehicles, but the effect is somewhat more pronounced with electric cars. And in winter, you naturally need more kWh per 100 km than in summer.
Ultimately, the range you need also depends heavily on your lifestyle, such as whether you live in the countryside or in the city, commute to work, or only use your electric car occasionally. But even if you commute to work daily or frequently travel for vacation… you can essentially cover long distances without worry, as charging points are now available almost everywhere, or you can charge at home with a wallbox.

The charging infrastructure is expanding daily. According to a resolution passed by the European Parliament, by 2026, charging stations for electric cars must be available at least every 60 km along all major roads within the EU.
Germany already has a comprehensive charging network with over 130,000 public charging points, while the Netherlands has around 160,000. In Italy, there are approximately 46,000 charging points, in Croatia around 1,500, primarily located along major roads and around larger cities, and in France you'll find roughly 130,000 charging points.
So, for example, if you're driving from Vienna to Zagreb or from Munich to Vienna, you can cover this distance with just one short stop, provided your car was fully charged. Depending on your driving style, the time of year, and the battery capacity, it might even be possible without a break.

The charging time of electric cars also depends on various factors. There are now several electric cars that can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 18 to 20 or 25 minutes at high-performance charging (HPC) stations.
As you can see, range anxiety is unfounded, at least in Western, Central, and Northern Europe. The claim that there are hardly any charging stations is simply wrong. And on long journeys, charging times with high-power charging (HPC) chargers are extremely short compared to wallboxes. They're often barely enough time for a bathroom break and a coffee. Furthermore, the range of electric cars is increasing year after year, and charging times are getting shorter and shorter.
