Sometimes you can witness a strange and frightening sight: a fish has been completely cleaned, its internal organs removed, but when placed in water or in contact with spices, it suddenly begins to move. At first glance, it seems as if the fish has "come to life," but from a biological perspective, there is a logical explanation.
The fact is that after a fish dies, its nervous system and muscle fibers retain the ability to function for some time. The muscles retain energy reserves (ATP), and the nerve endings can respond to external stimuli. Salt, spices, mechanical stress, or even water act as stimuli, causing reflexive muscle contractions.
It's important to understand that such movements are not a sign of life or consciousness. The brain is no longer functioning, metabolism is impaired, and movements occur automatically—without volition or sensory input. Similar postmortem reactions occur not only in fish but also in other animals, especially cold-blooded animals, whose tissues remain active longer after death.
Thus, the “resurrection” of the fish is simply a biological effect of residual nerve and muscle activity, and not a miracle or a sign that the fish is alive.
