The absorption dash is interesting. For me, it was reliable and never failed to absorb enemies that I was SURE it should. However, there were times that it absorbed enemies I was sure it shouldn't.
For most of my runs, I was sure Beck's body had to make contact with the enemy (plus some added area, a gift from the developers). This instance says that is not true.

In other words, any part of that animation, Beck or particle, could hit an enemy and cause absorption.
I could be wrong though.
