Is Sub4Sub (Subscribers for Subscribers) Beneficial?

If you are a content creator you likely have had to deal with requests for sub4sub or people who subscribe to you and then request that you subscribe back to them. Sure, it will gain you subscribers, but is it a good way to grow your channel? Will this method of growth benefit you in the long-run? How sustainable is sub4sub and can these subscribers really give you the growth you're looking for?
