The final part of our series: how to define Publisher (SPU/OPU), Writer (SWR) and the associated territories in a CWR file. We show you how ALV automatically translates complex rights relationships into the correct CWR format.
How is a single musical work represented inside a CWR file? This video explains the SPU, SPT, SWR and SWT records – the core of every CWR transaction.
✅ What this video covers:
✅ NWR record: contains the work title, work ID, and ISWC
✅ SPU records (Submitter-controlled Publisher): publisher name, IPI number, and role (original publisher, sub-publisher, etc.)
✅ Role abbreviations follow French international norms: E (éditeur), SE (sous-éditeur), A (auteur), C (compositeur)
✅ SPT records (Publisher Territory): royalty collection percentages per right type (performing, mechanical, sync) per territory
✅ SWR records (Submitter-controlled Writer): writer data including ownership shares
✅ SWT records (Writer Territory): territory-specific collection shares for writers
✅ Key distinction: a writer may own 50% of mechanical rights but collect 0% because the publisher collects 100%
