One of the biggest digestive problems that can quickly turn a festive and joyous time, into a period of misery is gallstones or gallbladder disease.

The average American has one gallbladder attack in their life that typically lasts 1-4 hours. However, if the attack is severe or there is a second attack, it may put the person at risk for having future attacks. Three common treatments for gallstones are a "wait and see" approach, nonsurgical removal of the stones, or cholecystectomy.

If you suspect you may be experiencing symptoms of a gallbladder attack, it’s very important not to ignore the problem and seek medical attention. Contact your physician or someone from our general surgery team right away to determine the best treatment for your condition. In the event that you are experiencing extreme pain and discomfort, head to the emergency room.
