Second Order Linear ODEs: Spring Systems
A system of the form x'' + b x' + c x=0 can be solved explicitly by writing down the characteristic equation and writing down the solution. There is one case with repeated roots which needs special attention. In the case of spring systems, this is the critically damped oscillator.
