In the "Two Against One" program, he is a Russian politician and former co-chairman of the Right Cause party. In 1992, he met Yegor Gaidar and served as his advisor. Since 1993, he has been involved in the "Choice of Russia" movement. In 1994, he joined the "Democratic Choice of Russia" party. In 1993, he worked at Dickinson College (Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA) and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for International Development in Washington, D.C.

In 1995, he ran for the State Duma elections as a member of the "Democratic Choice of Russia - United Democrats" bloc.

From August 1996 to March 1998, he served as an advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration, then First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, A.B. Chubais.

Since 1999, he has served as an advisor to Anatoly Chubais, Chairman of the Management Board of RAO UES of Russia. Since August 1999, he has served on the staff of the Union of Right Forces electoral bloc.

Since 2000, he has been a member of the board of RAO UES of Russia. In 2001, he was elected a member of the Union of Right Forces' political council.

On May 28, 2005, he was elected deputy chairman of the Union of Right Forces' federal political council. In the elections to the fourth Moscow City Duma at the end of that year, he opposed a joint bloc with the Yabloko party.

On September 26, 2008, Leonid Gozman officially replaced Nikita Belykh as chairman of the Union of Right Forces. In October, Anatoly Chubais, CEO of the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies, appointed Gozman as his advisor.

On November 16, 2008, at the founding congress of the new political party, Right Cause, he was elected its co-chairman.
