In this first episode of Generation Series, Rachel Mayer—Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s oldest granddaughter—shares what it was like to grow up in a family of faith and what it means to continue a faith legacy with her own children.

Rachel owes her family’s faith legacy to her great grandmother, Venetta Copeland, who took a stand in faith for her family and spent nights praying for them. That stand continued to her grandparents and then to her own mother. Now it’s her turn to pass on what she has learned and even to continue growing in her faith.

“God wants us to build on that foundation,” she says, “and not have to start over.”
She watched her own mother, Kellie Copeland, handle crises as a mother. In two different instances, Rachel’s two younger sisters came close to dying—one because of an automobile accident and the other because of sickness. In both cases, doctors told her mother that Rachel’s sisters wouldn’t survive. She saw the very real, life-changing effects of standing in faith in those situations. And now, with children of her own, she’s learned to take a stand in faith for their healing, too.

She admits that growing in faith is a process, and she sometimes needs help. When those moments come, she follows the example of the father in Mark 9:24, and pray, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief” (NKJV)! Each time she has prayed that prayer, the Lord has given her the rhema word she needs to strengthen her faith for whatever comes her way.
