India’s IT industry is dead - this obituary has been written many times in the past, and every time it has revived. But the advent of AI has been at an unprecedented scale. It feels different this time.
Generative AI can perform multiple tasks by interacting across platforms on its own. The requirement of human intervention in those tasks will be lower. Such tasks have mostly been handled by Indian IT companies for other businesses.
The IT companies can now deliver those tasks with fewer people. Does that mean they will have better margins? Or does that mean their clients would deploy AI in-house and not outsource work to them? Is the Indian IT winning or losing?
