Thank you for being here with me on this vintage clothing cleaning journey! Please like an subscribe- I usually post a new video every week. I picked up this 50’s wool felt skirt recently and wanted to see if I could clean it. I have not cleaned a vintage wool felt garment like this before and when an internet search for how to videos didn’t yield anything, I decided to give it a go. Heritage Park Silk and Wool wash has been recommended to me by some followers, so I decided to use that on this. I used color catcher sheets in case of the red leaves bleeding their color ( luckily that wasn’t an issue with this skirt, but it can be an issue on some felt items) Long story short and 3 soaks later, some browning still remains, but I felt continued soaking may have compromised the felt. It did hold up to the 3 soakings, so I did learn that. What was the brown? My guess is nicotine. It was interesting to see the difference in the color of the water with Heritage Park versus Eucalan. Was one better than the other? Hard to say- this skirt was an above average example to work on. A more basic dusty dirty garment may have fared better. So though this was not a satisfying project and there isn’t a dramatic before and after, I view it as educational and I still think she’s lovely ( and definitely cleaner than she was! ) #vintageclothescleaning #cleaningfelt #howto #50sstyle
