Victim of fig wasps 🐝😯
This wasp risks its life by entering the fig. Why does it do this? Because it's crucial to its life cycle. Fig pollinators enter the fruit through a tiny hole in its surface. In doing so, they lose their wings and antennae. After laying eggs inside, they wait to die—they can no longer escape. The hatched wasps are forced to mate with each other, so females begin their lives already pregnant. Males chew their way out of the fruit so the others can escape and continue the cycle. #animals
