On July 6, 1936, a delegation from the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR arrived in Moscow. This was standard practice. Stalin hosted delegations from all the republics, and now it was the turn of the Buryat-Mongolian one. The delegation consisted of sixty-seven people, led by Mikhey Yerbanov, First Secretary of the Buryat-Mongolian Regional Committee. Of course, the People's Commissar for Agriculture, Ardan Markizov, was also present, along with his wife and seven-year-old daughter, Gela, who had begged her father to take her along to see the "leader of all peoples."
