This beach walk started on Copacabana beach and finish on the Leme beach. The main focus was the wonderful LEME BEACH.
Leme is a neighborhood in the southern part of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, located on the same seafront as Copacabana beach. Leme beach and Copacabana beach is joined together and considered two of the most famous beaches in the world, together they have 4,15km extension accompanying the Avenida Atlántica (Atlantic Avenue) to the Copacabana Fort.
Leme beach is normally more lovely and crowded than Copacabana beach. Every year in the days leading up to New Year's on December 31 the traditional processions honoring Yemaja begin here. The famous party of Réveillon or New Year's Eve in Copacabana extends completely into Leme as well.
Leme offers a nice viewing point of Copacabana beach, many mountains and view of Christ the Redeemer (Christo Redentor). There are few bars on the viewing point as well. There are a lot of activities on the beach including sunbathing, beach volleyball, soccer, football, surfing etc. Leme is full of beautiful Brazilian people and visitors.
Peaceful Leme is known for Pedra do Leme, a forested rocky outcropping crowned by the colonial Duque de Caxias fort, with a history museum and sweeping coastal views. From here, a path winds down to Leme Beach, a wide stretch of sand popular with surfers, fishermen and local families. Back from the seafront, residential streets are lined with traditional bakeries, relaxed bars and old-school Italian restaurants.
Leme (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈlɛ̃mi], rudder) is an upper-middle-class neighborhood in the South Zone of the City of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next to Copacabana, Urca and Botafogo. The neighborhood takes its name from a nearby rock formation whose shape resembles the rudder of a ship.
In 1975 was built one of the tallest buildings in the Leme beach; the hotel Le Méridien. Le Méridien closed in 2007 and was sold in 2009 to Windsor Hotels for around R$170 million. After a refurbishment, it was reopened in January 2011 as the Windsor Atlantica Hotel.
Affectionately known by the population of Princess of the Sea, a popular song of the Brazilian João de Barro – Braguinha – and Alberto Ribeiro, Copacabana beach is located in a district of the same name in the South of Rio. Copacabana has bike racks, bike path, kiosks, hotels, bars and restaurants frequented both day and night. It also has two military forts, one at each end of the beach, with panoramic views, open to visitation.
This fascination also goes by the beautiful boardwalk of Atlântica Avenue in black and white Portuguese stones, which form a beautiful mosaic wave form, inspired by the Lisbon boardwalk and used by Roberto Burle Marx on the beach. They have great infrastructure of hotels and kiosks that attracts tourists worldwide.
Stage of the largest New Year’s Eve party on the planet with their fires known worldwide, Copacabana has more than three million people every passing year. It sands are also hosts large events like the Pan American Games Rio 2007 world championships beach soccer and volleyball world championships.
