Natalia Alimpieva with you. Today I'm introducing a new rug, the "ZigZag" rug. This rug is very easy to knit, and even a beginner can handle it. The key element here is the single crochet stitch, while the tricky part is the double crochet stitches, worked beforehand. But don't let that intimidate you; as always, I'll show you everything in detail.
Let's talk about cord consumption and rug size.
It's best to knit this rug using cord in two contrasting shades, so the pattern will be clearly visible. Therefore, the minimum amount of cord required is two skeins. The size of a rug made from two skeins is 90 cm x 60 cm.
You can use three skeins: two of the same color plus one contrasting color to create a solid-color border, as in this sample. The size of a rug made from three skeins is 65 cm x 95 cm.
To more accurately calculate the cord consumption, I knitted another sample from one skein, i.e., a solid-color one. There's no color pattern here, but the texture of the relief is clearly visible. The size of a rug made from one skein is 45 cm x 50 cm, or ¼ square meter. Thus, we get the calculation formula: 4-5 skeins of cord are required for 1 square meter of knitted fabric.
As you can imagine, your rug can be any size. You can calculate the cord consumption yourself using this formula: 4-5 skeins of cord are required for 1 square meter of knitted fabric. The number of stitches in the initial chain is practically irrelevant, as the pattern is sliding and doesn't depend on the number of stitches. You need to cast on a chain the same length as the width of your rug. You can also choose the pattern repeat to suit your taste, meaning you can use more or fewer single crochets between zigzags.
