This audio mastering demo will share with you tips and tricks to get more out of Studio One and produce like a pro.
There are a few things that are going to be assumed about you the viewer. 1. That you do have some experience in Studio One and 2 that you have some compression experience.
If you do not there will be a bit of a learning curve until you get some of that experience under your belt.

Lets start this music engineering tutorial with putting out that there are 2 ways of mastering, you can either master your song using the mastering output, or export your song and then put it back into Studio One and do it that way.
Mixing is easier when you export it into Studio One. I only say that because you will likely NOT mess with the mix when you are mastering if you take option 2!
With that out of the way lets get started. First tip is to cut your lows! Just try it, cut out everything below 40HZ. This will remove any of the frequencies that the human ear cannot pick up anyway.
Add the fruity EQ 2 and get rid of those lows that are taking up headroom.
There are 2 options for multiband compressors in Studio One. The Maximus compressor of the Fruity Compressor. The Maximus as the more advanced features so it comes highly recommended as the one to use.
Even with the advanced features Maximus is pretty straight forward to use. You have 3 bands low, mid and high, and you can set the frequency range in each band.
There is also a single band master compressor which allows additional control. You can bring all the bands together with the single band master.
You can decide where you want the band splits by soloing each band and moving over. You can view the compression of each band by using the monitor function.
You can have some fun by drawing the curves of each threshold on the graph. Try applying a harder compression on the low frequencies.
Add a little high end detail on the track by not compressing the high frequencies.
There is a lot you can do with compression that will not only clean up the track but add some great nuances and help you get that pro mix sound that you are after.
Try mixing in some saturation in Maximus as well. Harmonic excitement adds depth to your mix and is easy with Studio One and Maxims compression.
Once you have everything compressed the way you want it, it is time to move on to the EQ settings to get that perfect balance.
EQ boost is a great way to bring back some of the details that have been lost in error during compression.
Now EQ adjustment is not only necessary after compression, sometimes you hit the nail right on the head but if you think you do than you should definitely play around with the EQ.
