The "Revolve" command in Fusion 360 is a tool used for creating 3D models by revolving a 2D sketch around a specified axis. This command is particularly useful for creating cylindrical or symmetrical shapes, such as screws, bolts, vases, or parts of a wheel. Here's how you can use the Revolve command in Fusion 360:
To Create a Revolved Feature:
Open Your Design: Launch Fusion 360 and open your existing design or create a new one.
Activate the "Model" Workspace: Ensure that you are in the "Model" workspace for 3D modeling.
Create a 2D Sketch: You need to start by creating a 2D sketch on a plane or face where you want to create the revolved feature. This sketch should represent the cross-sectional shape of the feature.
Activate the "Revolve" Command:
In the "Model" workspace, go to the "Create" menu in the top menu bar.
Choose the "Revolve" command from the menu.
Select the Sketch: In the Revolve dialog box, you'll see the "Profile" section. Click the "Select" button next to "Profile" and choose the 2D sketch you want to revolve.
Specify the Revolve Axis: You need to define the axis around which the sketch will be revolved. You can do this by:
Clicking the "Axis" field and selecting an existing axis or edge in your design. This will be the axis of rotation.
If you don't have an existing axis, you can create one by selecting the "2-Point Axis" option and specifying two points to define the axis.
Adjust the Angle: By default, Fusion 360 will revolve the sketch 360 degrees. You can adjust this angle in the "Angle" field if you want a partial revolution.
Operation Type: You can specify whether you want to create a "New Body," "Cut" an existing body, or "Intersect" the feature with an existing body.
Preview and Finish: After configuring the options, click "OK" to preview the revolved feature.
Complete the Feature: Review the preview and make any necessary adjustments. Once you are satisfied with the revolved shape, click "OK" to complete the feature.
Editing a Revolved Feature:
If you want to make changes to a revolved feature after it has been created, you can do so by editing the sketch or the parameters of the Revolve feature. Here's how:
Select the Revolve feature in the Fusion 360 timeline on the left side of the screen.
Right-click on the feature and choose "Edit Feature."
You can make changes to the sketch, the axis, or the angle. Click "OK" when you are done.
The Revolve command in Fusion 360 is a powerful tool for creating a wide range of 3D shapes with rotational symmetry. It is commonly used in mechanical design and product modeling to create parts and components with cylindrical or symmetric features.
