In this video, I'll tell you about a route that has truly become iconic for its beauty and enjoyment!
I'm talking about the tour that takes you to the famous Strada degli Eroi (Heroes' Road) on the slopes of Mount Pasubio and the famous Strada degli Scarrubbi (Scarrubbi Road). Both are military roads built during the First World War between 1916 and 1917.
The name comes from the plaques on the rock face honoring the 12 gold medals for military valor who fought on Pasubio during the Great War.
The beauty of this tour is that you pedal amidst the Piccole Dolomiti and Mount Pasubio. Starting from Pian delle Fugazze, you can immediately take the Strada degli Eroi (Heroes' Road). After the first few kilometers immersed in the woods, a panorama opens up, stunning the beauty of the views over the Piccole Dolomiti and the Veneto plain.
We take a nice break at the Papa refuge, named after the general of the same name. The Papa Refuge can also be reached by following the Strada delle 52 Gallerie del Pasubio, a road accessible only on foot and not by bicycle. From here, we set off again toward the military memorial and the small church commemorating the fallen of Pasubio.
And now we're ready to fully enjoy the long descent along the Strada degli Scarubbi to the Xomo Pass. From there, we descended to Valli del Pasubio and ascended to the Pian delle Fugazze Pass via a long asphalt climb.
This route is highly recommended for both gravel and mountain bikes. The only thing I recommend is that if you want to continue from the Achille Papa Refuge toward the Palon and Dente Austriaco peaks, it's best to have a mountain bike, as the surface is very rocky and uneven.
Here's the link to Komoot in case you'd like to repeat the route with the various stretches I installed:
