If you're struggling, you can use the specter to draw aggro, which will make it easier for you to use throwables on this difficult boss. A lot of his attacks have a large reach, so you have to be very careful when you are close to him. The second phase is where things get really difficult, and your specter will likely die relatively early, so it is important to take this boss down as quickly as you possibly can in order to maximize the damage potential.
