Gimp Tutorial -How to copy and paste in the same location
This is how to copy and paste in the same location using Gimp. You can pretty much only do it once though(aka make sure you color in everything before creating a new layer); after you do it once it's hard to select all content of the layer you just created; however you can select by color in the selection drop down menu which is very similar to using the magic wand....so some pixels will be missing.
