The Nissan Mr20de engine was overhauled in this video. Since the engine had been overhauled before, it's hard to say what caused this particular Mr20de's failure. However, if we ignore the previous interventions on this X-Trail's engine, the wear pattern resembles the consequences of a catalytic converter failure. The Mr20de's cylinder liners have evenly spaced scratches, as do the camshafts. The connecting rod bearings were replaced by repairmen before us and no longer have any scratches, and the car already had no catalytic converter.
