How to mute someone’s profile on the X application, previously known as Twitter. If someone’s tweets are flooding your feed or you're just not interested in their content anymore — muting is a quick and polite way to manage what you see. Let’s dive right into it!

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE:

1. Open the X (Twitter) App

Start by opening the X app on your phone. Make sure you're signed in to your account.

2. Find the Profile You Want to Mute

You can either search for the person’s username or tap their name from a tweet or your followers/following list.

3. Go to Their Profile Page

Once you’re on their profile, you’ll see their name, profile picture, bio, and tweet history.

4. Tap the Three Dots (Options Menu)

In the top-right corner of their profile page, tap on the three vertical dots to open the options menu.

5. Select “Mute”

In the list of options, tap on “Mute”. A prompt will pop up asking for confirmation.

6. Confirm the Mute Action

The app will display a message like:
“Are you sure you want to mute this user? You won’t see their posts on your timeline anymore.”
Tap on “Yes, I’m sure” or “Confirm”.

7. Success!

And just like that, you’ve muted the profile. Their tweets will no longer appear in your timeline, but they won’t know you’ve muted them — it’s totally private.

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

1. You Can Still Follow Someone You’ve Muted

Muting doesn’t unfollow them. You’re still connected, but their content just won’t appear in your feed.

2. Muting Is Reversible

Want to unmute them later? Just visit their profile again, tap the three dots, and choose “Unmute”.

3. You Can Mute Specific Content Too

On X, you can also mute specific words, phrases, usernames, or hashtags from showing up in your feed. This gives you even more control.

4. Muting vs. Blocking

Muting is silent and polite — the user won’t know. Blocking, on the other hand, prevents all interactions and the user will be notified if they try to view your profile.

5. Use Mute for Mental Peace

If someone is too negative, political, or posts too much, muting is a great tool to protect your mental space without confrontation.

6. Manage Muted Accounts

To view or manage your muted accounts, go to:
Settings & Support → Settings and Privacy → Privacy and Safety → Mute and Block → Muted accounts
From there, you can see the list and unmute anyone at any time.
