This week on Tactical Rifleman I wanted to share a bit of a story about one of our missions in Mosul Iraq, in 2009.
I am a big fan of being able to shoot in the dark and mastering all the technology that gives us an edge, such as Gen-III goggles, IR Illuminators, and IR Aiming Lasers. However, I was never a big fan of using visible lasers, as the give away your position.
Fast forward, to this night in Iraq, and I saw a young assaulter use the visible laser to get the attention of a non-combatant (in the wrong place at the wrong time), and warn him off into fleeing the area. No warning shots fired. No wrestling and zip-tying. The perfect use of non-lethal force.
So, that night I made a mental note to keep this technique in my mental toolbox, incase I ever needed to use it myself. So far, I have not. That’s why I sharing it with you, as some of our viewers are active duty military, serving overseas. It’s better than shooting a scared kid off the end of your gun.
I also want to give a special “shout-out” to Lowell, from the Tactical Rifleman film crew. This was his acting debut, as he volunteered to play the part of “Guy in the Man dress” and he did a great job. No animals were harmed in the filming of this video.
