In this lesson, we focus on how to form and use the Past Simple Passive.
🔑 Key points:
• The Past Simple Passive is formed with:
Subject + was / were + past participle
👉 The cake was baked. / The letters were sent.
• Just like the Present Simple Passive, we use the Past Simple Passive when the action is more important than the person who did it.
👉 The new law was passed yesterday.
• It’s often used in formal speech and written reports.
👉 The results were announced at the meeting.
• Remember:
◦ Use was for singular subjects and were for plurals.
◦ The verb be in the passive cannot be contracted.
◦ For questions, invert the subject and be:
👉 Was it introduced last year?
💬 Practice Task:
Rewrite this active sentence in the Past Simple Passive:
➡️ The chef cooked a delicious meal.
